| The ‘all season’ resort of Bansko, is situated in the south west of Bulgaria at the foot of the Pirin mountains 936m above sea level and has a population of around 10,000.
The old town, dominated by the church’s beautiful bell tower is situated near the centre and is most picturesque with narrow cobbled streets and quaint old buildings. It is worth exploring as are the approximately 100 mehanas, the local restaurants, which are nearly always atmospheric and attractive. There is plenty of nightlife especially during the ski season including a number of night clubs. The Pirin National Park area where the ski slopes are situated, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and encompasses some 60 alpine peaks which rise above 2,500m. A number of almost extinct animal species can still be found here. Winter is when the town becomes fully alive. It is one of Bulgaria’s new generation, rapidly expanding ski resorts boasting some 65km of runs. Over the last few years the resort has been rejuvenated with the installation of state of the art lifts and piste maintenance equipment. A further new chair lift is expected to be operational this coming season (2007/8) together with extra red and blue runs. Snow cover is maintained by the use of snow cannon and the seven kilometer home run from the top of the gondola is floodlit. With the highest ski altitude at 2600m and the bottom of the gondola being at 990m, Bansko's longest run is a massive16 km. Cross-country trails, a snow-board fun park and an ice rink add to the fun. In summer with temperatures reaching the low 30s Centigrade at times Bansko becomes an outdoor community. Café awnings proliferate and the old ladies dressed in traditional style sit along benches gossiping awaiting the cows who, in the evenings, amble their way along the roads to their individual homes. Bansko provides opportunities for all the usual summer mountain activities as well as being a base for visits to the Dancing Bear Sanctuary, the Rila Monastery, the thermal springs and a ride on the oldest narrow guage railway in Bulgaria to name but a few. On Sundays there is a large market and every year there are a variety of festivals including a popular international Jazz festival in August. | |

| In historic and beautiful Bansko our 4* 2 bedroomed, beautifully appointed self catering apartment sleeps up to 6 adults and a child. Perfect for skiing in winter or the mountain life of summer. Located above the town of Bansko at the edge of the Pirin National Park it is approximately 200 m from the Ski Road (home ski run) and commands views of both the mountains and valley from its two balconies.
As part of a four-star hotel complex our guests will benefit from a range of quality facilities including a swimming pool, spa centre with a hot tub/jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, a fitness centre, bar/restaurant and a 24 hour concierge, although some of these are at an extra charge. Situated on the fourth floor and served by lift our apartment offers a full range of equipment with extras should a baby or young child be visiting. The apartment comprises: Bedroom 1: Two single beds with ample storage space beneath - they can be pushed together to make a large double bed, a combined wardrobe and drawers, bedside tables and lights, mirror and shelf. A full width balcony enjoys a view of the mountains. Bedroom 2: This is a larger room and has room for the same equipment as in bedroom 1 but can also accommodate a cot or camp style bed suitable for a child (both of which are available in the apartment). Main Room: Double convertible settee, another 2-seater settee, a table with 6 chairs, TV with at least 3 English-speaking channels, DVD player and a variety of DVDs, internet point (access available for a small weekly fee from the hotel), coffee table and book shelf unit. There is also a wood-burning fire. Kitchen area: Fan oven with a grill, 4-ring electric hob, extractor fan, integrated refrigerator with freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and adequate utensils and crockery. A small balcony is shared with bedroom 2 and overlooks the valley. Hall: a large cupboard/wardrobe. It is also possible to have the travel cot or child bed here and still be able to exit the apartment. Shower room and a second toilet room. For the Young: A modern travel cot, easy to erect Black's camp bed (tip-resistant), folding high chair and baby bath. The balconies have had extra planks of wood fitted to increase the children’s safety. |
