| Nick and Dilly have spent 5 years renovating Bird Song Cottages and during that time, they have grown to love the area, the people and of course the food and wine! They enjoy sharing their way of life with their many visitors who come to sample a little of France on holiday - all at a 'petit prix'!
Bird Song Cottages offers a taste of France for the budget conscious and in this 'economic climate', one doesn't have to miss out on that special holiday. We have something to offer everyone; from the single person touring the Breton countryside to the family who wants to 'stay put' and relax away from the stresses of modern day living. However, for those who wish to roam, we are well situated to explore both inland and coastal France. The 'Villes d'Art et d'Histoire' of Fougères and Vitré are just 20 minutes away offering their castles, cobbled street and medieval houses and shops. the coast is about 45 minutes away with St Malo and Dinard offering a more sophisicated environment. The capital city of Brittany is Rennes with its magnificent Parliament buildings, its opera house and 'hotel de ville', also many designer shops. Seafood is a must in Brittany and Cancale's harbourside is brimming with seafood restaurants to suit all pockets or why not sit on the harbour wall and taste the freshly caught mussels and oysters! | |

| This 17th century property was originally seven small cottages for the farmer, his family and his workers. During the last five years, the property has been sensitively renovated to produce not only a home for owners, Nick and Dilly, but also a beautiful and peaceful retreat for their guests.
Birdsong Cottages are situated in the tiny hamlet of La Pellarie, just outside the village of Combourtillé on the D179, which itself is just 12km from the medieval towns of Fougères to the north and Vitré to the south; both `Villes d`Art et d`Histoires`. To the rear of the property, the views are of the Breton fields and farms which surround Birdsong Cottages. To the front, bathed in sun for most of the day, the cottages look out onto the courtyard and gardens; the rockery, productive vegetable garden, lawns interspersed with flowers and the ancient walnut tree. Birdsong Cottages are built of the local stone. The traditional, rural french ambience has been kept with walls of `pierres apparentes`, original oak beams and a magnificent granite fireplace. However, with new roofing, plumbing, electricity, double glazing and heating, Birdsong Cottages combine comfort and tradition to give you the best of both worlds. Birdsong Cottages provides ample accommodation for the single person or a family `get-together` of 12! The 4 units are terraced comprising:- Robin, a studio for 1 or 2 people, Blackbird, a family gite for 6 people, Nuthatch, a smaller gite for 2 or 3 people, Wren, a smaller gite for 2 people. Blackbird Cottage is the largest of the cottages and is designed for family use. Like many French homes, the eating area is the heart of the home and thus we have created a large, welcoming, family area comprising a kitchen, sitting and dining area. The floor is tiled throughout with rugs for comfort and the original oak beams have been preserved. The large Breton granite `cheminée` is still in situ and provides the focal point for the area. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms; one with a full sized double bed and the other with twin beds. The shower-room with wash handbasin and toilet is fully tiled and heated. Nuthatch Cottage is designed on the same principle with one large living, eating and cooking area downstairs and upstairs, one double bedroom with separate shower-room with wash handbasin, toilet and heating. Wren Cottage again has one large living, eating and cooking area downstairs and one double bedroom with twin beds upstairs. The bathroom has a bath with overshower, wash handbasin and toilet and it too is heated. Robin Cottage is a small studio, alll on the ground floor and is ideal for the single person. It comprises one living area with sofa bed and kitchenette. There is a separate shower-room with wash hand basin, toilet and it is heated. |
