| Situated 2 minutes drive from the unspoilt sandy beach, Plougasnou is a tranquil little market village, 40 minutes from Roscoff. The ancient church of St Pierre dominates the tree-lined village square in which a popular market is held every Tuesday morning. This area of Brittany is relatively undiscovered as yet and has a beautiful rugged coastline with lots of hidden sandy coves.Also in the village are a tourist information centre, medical centre, pharmacy, post office, bank, bookshop and giftshop.
We offer an ideal centre not only for family beach holidays but also for walking holidays, as we are within 30 minutes walk of the beautiful coastal path.There is also a sailing school nearby where we can arrange sailing or wind-surfing courses for you with English speaking instructors. Great for teenagers. We also offer maps and details of local walks, many starting from our property. Our nearest beach is wide, unspoilt and sandy. It is a 2 minute drive or a 30 minute walk downhill along pretty country paths - unfortunately its uphill on the way back! There are many small, hidden coves which are practically deserted even in Summer. Ven Izella beach in this photo is one of these lovely coves and is only 15 minutes drive away. During July and August a musical concert takes place every Tuesday evening in Plougasnou village square, featuring musicians from around the world. There are also numerous classical concerts which take place inside the church. Also, in Morlaix, a highly coulourful free Arts festival takes place in August which consists of theatrical events around the streets of Morlaix. | Our sea-side gîtes are situated in Finistère, to the east of Roscoff on the edge of the village of Plougasnou about 20 minutes from Morlaix. 40 minutes from the ferry at Roscoff. The Longhouse The Longhouse (sleeps up to 12) is built of pink granite and is the left-hand half of an old Breton longhouse. It is about 200 years old and used to be the boulangerie for the local villagers. The ground floor consists of a huge tiled open-plan kitchen/dining-area/lounge and a utility room with toilet, basin, washing-machine and ironing facilities. There are french-windows leading from the kitchen/dining-area out onto a patio with garden furniture for eating meals outside. The kitchen is very well-equiped with gas cooker, microwave and dish-washer and there is a large dining-table with seating for 14. The spacious and attractive open-beamed lounge is dominated by the huge original granite fireplace with wood-burning stove. On the first floor are a bathroom with bath, sink and WC and 3 bedrooms one with 2 single beds, one with a double bed and one with 2 sets of bunk beds and a single bed. The bunk room is fitted with dark curtains to improve your chances of a lie-in and also has children's books and toys! On the first floor and in the attic we have kept the original varnished wooden floors apart from the bunk room but all bedrooms have rugs.In the attic are 2 further bedrooms and a shower room with shower, sink and toilet. These have attractive wood-panelled ceilings and one has a double, a single bed and a cot while the other has a double bed. The house is fully CENTRALLY HEATED and is ideal for Christmas and New Year breaks. Book early though! For availability click at the top of the page. Prices are as follows. | Garden furniture, outdoor games and barbeques are available. We can arrange horse-riding, diving, bike hire, sailing courses, tennis and if you wish to bring your boat we can arrange anchorage. For evening entertainment each house has games and jigsaw puzzles and also well-stocked book shelves.
For children there is a play area in our huge prize-winning garden with a climbing frame, slide, 2 swings and sand box and there is normally a hammock hung in the trees so parents can relax while supervising their children. In all 3 houses children's toys, books and games are provided. At the far end of the garden is a football area and the other side of that a field where we keep our small flock of dwarf black sheep, dwarf rabbits and Billy the little white goat. All the animals are very friendly and you are free to give them small amounts of bread. Stairgates and cots are available. We also have other baby equipment which can be borrowed (highchairs, baby bath etc) and a baby sitting service is available free of charge by use of a baby listening device.
