| Escuela La Crujia is just 10 minutes from the very busy and lively Spanish town of Torre del Mar on the coast, offering several Kms of wide, sandy beach, long promenade and plenty of beach bars and restaurants. A short drive away (20 mins) is the popular holiday town of Nerja with many wonderful places to eat and drink, and just beyond the wonders of the Maro cliffs and its caves and hidden coves, and the world famous Nerja caves, just waiting to be discovered.
10 minutes inland is the magnificent Lake Viñuela, a delightful stretch of water with a mountain backdrop that will take your breath away! There are picnic areas among the pine trees and walking paths around the lake, and some excellent lake-view restaurants. All around are many wonderful white-washed villages that are typical of Andalucía, including spectacular Comares, called locally the balcony of the Axarquia region for its 360 degree views from the coast to the South to Granada province to the North. Alcaucin is another very special village to visit, where the theme of water water water is everywhere, as natural water gushes its way through the fountains on its way down to the lake. There are many more places to explore, including hot springs, deed-cut gorges with crumbling water mills, fabulous mountain walks and hidden mountain restaurants, and much, much more! | In 2002 we bought a dilapidated and rambling old schoolhouse (`Escuela` means school) with an enchanting little belltower and an overgrown garden full of birds of all types - and set about converting it into a comfortable home and guest house.
Escuela La Crujia is now a very pretty guest house/B&B, in a beautiful and very peaceful rural setting, just 10 minutes from the coast at Torre del Mar and just 30 minutes from Malaga airport. Like a small hotel, this guest house has three guest rooms. We have two spacious double rooms with their own kitchenettes and one twin room. All rooms have their own bathrooms. Each room has its own entrance and terrace area, and guests have full use of all the communal areas. We serve breakfast each morning in the old school hall, which also acts as a guest lounge, with tables for indoor eating, seating around a fireplace, an extensive library of books and board games. Outside, enjoy the peaceful and secluded gardens, with an outdoor pool and sun terrace area around it, lawns, pingpong table and a fabulous trampoline for the kids! We also welcome animals as there are many country lanes to walk your dogs. A few minutes` walk from Escuela La Crujia you will find two excellent and very reasonably priced bar/restaurants, packed with local Spaniards and very welcoming. Both offer Menu of the Day (Mon-Fri) at lunchtime for around 8 Euros per person (3 courses and a bottle of wine and water included!) and one of them offers surprisingly good evening meals.
